It’s been a little over a month since I last got on my blog. I’ve hardly even thought about it. But I have been productive. Since my last post my girls have went back to school, I’ve had a birthday and I’ve made three little children’s quilts and a few other crafty items. I finally bought the rest of the fabric needed for the terms of endearment quilt top. So maybe next week I’ll start working on that quilt. I have come to realize that I tend to do more girly quilts than boys. Maybe it has something to do with having only girls and no boys, I really like girly colors, OR that’s all that is ever on sale around here LOL. So a small side goal is to make a few more boy blankets.
Here are the three blankets I’ve made in the last five weeks.
It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Summer was super busy and I gave up on trying to get anything done in my sewing room. Instead I opted for days at the park and splash pad. July was our extremely busy month this summer. Had a family trip up into Missouri and the following weekend my sister’s wedding down in Dallas, then two weekends later my family reunion, which thank god was only ten minutes away! I absolutely love where we live and hope to never have to move.
Now that summer is coming to an end tomorrow and my girls will both be back into school, I will FINALLY get a chance to be in my sewing room and accomplish something. I have three quilts I have to finish before Christmas and one quilt top that needs to be done by the end of the year. Plus my little neighborhood quilt and scrappy quilt to keep adding to. I also need to get something put together for a small town crafting bazaar in my hometown on October 4th.
Now as for my last post I made. I started a garden, but I gave up on it this time around. I started it to late and have had nothing but trouble with it. Although I know I can do it, so as soon as I can I will be planting next year. As for the compost, lol, didn’t happen, maybe I’ll work up to that, once I can get a working garden that is producing for me.
Great News Here! I will be going back to school! I was striving to be back when my girls went back BUT with such a busy summer we had I ran out of time to finish getting everything set up. I have to go take my compass test then just get registered for classes. So I am looking at starting the next semester. I will be taking classes online for Dietetic Tech. Can’t wait, so many new beginnings. It’s going to be a great school year.
My husband and I have been playing around with the idea of starting a small garden on our 3 acres. With realizing how ridiculously expensive fresh healthy food is this last week it has made me work a lot faster on getting said garden started! I’m a bit hesitant in one way only. I have absolutely NO green thumb at all. I can’t even keep a pot of flowers alive longer than two weeks. But I am very determined to get frugal. Not only am I wanting to start a garden but I am going to start my own compost. I am going to attempt a hot pile. I know it will take a few months to get going good, but I know it will help with the garden. Another project we are working toward on our frugal lifestyle is raising chickens. We are lucky enough that previous tenants had chickens here at one point and have left a well structured chicken coop behind. With a little renovation to it and adding the originally planned playhouse into a chicken roosting house it will be a good start on housing for them. However that little adventure isn’t going to be completely started until next spring. Going green hippie style but not quite extremest. Be respectful and humane.
Just wanted to share my page on Facebook. Come take a look. I currently have a “summer sale” on my finished projects.
SUMMER IS HERE!!!! OMG so my girls have been out for summer for about two weeks now. Although they are much more independent now days, they are STILL keeping me super BUSY! So much to my disappointment, I have been SLACKING on my sewing. Although this year is my year to mostly just start new projects, I feel like some of the unfinished projects that are at a non stopping point sitting around in my craft room are screaming at me to hurry and get them out of the way. BUT I am determined to give my girls a GREAT summer, which means driving them to places and getting out of my house and craft room to do those things. Some things on our summer calendar is their day sports camp this week, then swimming in the lake and splash pad as much as possible. Along with that we are enrolled in the public library’s summer reading program. So we have to make time out of the day to read! Not to mention our annual family summer fish fry in July and then the following weekend my sister’s “best day of her life” event.
At the top of my mind, my count on unfinished quilting projects reach at about eight. My newest one is going to be a Term of Endearment Quilt for my sister’s wedding. Instead of doing the traditional guest book at the reception table I’ll be having blocks of white cotton and fabric markers for people to put some advice or “term of endearment” for the newly weds. Once the wedding is done and over with I’ll take those blocks and get fabrics in the same color wheel as their wedding colors.
SOOOOO just to let any “followers” know that I’m still here, but I won’t be near as much as I was. Maybe once my girls go back to school in August I will again find the time to update on my sewing.
One of the best things about searching for fabric on a budget is looking and looking and coming across some buried treasures.
Just a few lovely pictures of spring around our house 🙂
So I had an interview today at Dollar General and I’d have to say that it went real well. In fact he informed me that I’d be getting a call from him tonight. However considering I’d only get paid minimum wage and only be part time it is not worth it financially. AND, we would loose my kids health insurance and we’d pretty much be paying for me to have this job. SOOO we have been talking even more and I am looking into take college classes. I’m considering Culinary Arts. But I’d love some feed back on what good class courses are for a crafter and stay at home mother like I’ve been.
So great news. My husband is finally getting that raise he was promised last year. But regardless of him getting it it is still time for me to venture out of the house and get a job of my own. I have been a stay at home mother for the last nine years. Dedicating my time and love into raising our children. One of the many reasons, and not being the most important was it was just cheaper for me to stay home with them then having to put them in daycare. Since I was a stay at home mother I was always available to help babysit for our friends and neighbors. Being a military life all those years I was never short of friends. We recently in the last year moved away from all of that and even though we have lived at this new place we still haven’t made any friends. And being that I went straight from High School to being married then having kids, not having a job of any kind or going to any school, finding a job recently has been very very very depressing. The last place I want to work is McDonald’s or somewhere equivalent. Nothing wrong with those places, but I really just don’t want to work there. However I applied at Pizza Hut and not even they was interested in me. I have so many skills of serving and cleaning, but it seems like no one will give me the time of day. If only I could make a living out of my quilts then I’d be doing something I love and making a little money off it to boot 🙂 But I will keep my head up and just keep applying for jobs. Since we live in a Lake Town with many hotels and resorts I am bound to find some sort of job soon, considering it is getting to that time of year when all the vacationers and seasonal tenants come rolling back in.
So that ever so busy birthday week for our family is approaching soon. One week in May we have four birthdays all in a row! I still can’t believe the chances of that happening. In the past I was a super organized Mom and had my daughters parties planned out two or three months in advance since all I had to worry about was our family of four and our friends. Now that we moved back home to all our family and away from all our friends I have more to consider than what weekend and what not is best for us 🙂 BUT I WOULDN’T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD! In the past I try to take into consideration what my little birthday girls want as a theme or based off what they have been really really into lately. But my little almost five year old really just doesn’t care. She is like her Daddy in soooooooo many ways. I always joke with people that the only thing she got from me was my eyes 😉 I even just recently asked her what she would like as a present for her birthday. What does this little goober do, she looks around the room and says the first thing that her eyes fall on. My blanket, thinking this is a joke I laughed and asked what kind of blanket. Then she states the second thing her eyes fall on, Daddy’s fish tank, so she wants a fish blanket. Knowing she is just joking and that she would really be happy with whatever we make/buy her we are going to go with making our girls a playhouse outside 🙂 I know they will love it and get much use out of it this summer. Considering this is what I’d like to do for them I thought having a great picnic/garden party off our great back deck again would be a great way to display they’re new and exciting play thing. Among other things will be the great game of cornhole, maybe some horseshoes, heck maybe even they’re pool if it’s warm enough by then, along with some amazing ribs and sides. Instead of going with the normal cake like we do every year I have decided to make dirt cake. I tell my little birthday girl this and she just thought that was so funny. Once that much anticipated weekend is among us I will gladly post a few pictures of my “crafty” decorations.
